Demand adds additional consultation sessions to A31 consultation

POPULAR demand has forced more consultation dates to be added over plans for a £25m major overhaul of the A31 near Ringwood.

Three more online sessions via Microsoft Teams have been added by roads agency National Highways.

They will take place from 6pm to 7.30pm on Wednesday, 11am to 12.30pm on 29th September and 2pm to 3.30pm on 1st October.

The events provide full details of the planned work and timelines, including when a number of slip roads will be closed and planned diversion routes.

National Highways assistant project manager Raluca Mitu said: “We are delighted that there has been so much interest in attending our events and are keen to share as much information as possible with the local community and road users before we start work.”

As reported in the A&T, the scheme will replace the two bridges on the westbound carriageway over the River Avon and Bickerley Millstream, and widen the westbound dual carriageway to three lanes between the Ringwood and Verwood junctions.

Preliminary work has already been completed, such as closing West Street and a series of small projects intended to boost access and safety for pedestrians and cyclists in Ringwood.

The main scheme is due to start in November, but there are fears the work could cause motoring misery for a whole year, since the slip road is intended to be shut from the south side of the main Ringwood roundabout onto the westbound side of the dual carriageway until November 2022.
